On May 25th and 28th, 2024, undergraduate students from the Department of Social Welfare at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Universitas Jember, partnered with the Jember branch of the Indonesian Family Planning Association (PKBI) to conduct health education and service activities at SMP Negeri 12 Jember and SLB Negeri Branjangan. This initiative aimed to enhance understanding of sexual and reproductive health rights (SRHR) and promote healthy lifestyles through the OKY application.
On May 25th, 2022 students conducted an SRHR socialization session at SMP Negeri 12 Jember, educating 70 female students on reproductive health, sexuality, body boundaries, and sexual abuse prevention. The subsequent activity on May 28th at SLB Negeri Branjangan focused on reproductive health and wellness, employing a game-based approach using the OKY app. Additionally, PKBI provided health screenings, including blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol, and uric acid checks, as well as weight and height measurements.
This collaborative effort was fully supported by Prof. Hadi Prayitno, M.Kes., a lecturer in Social Welfare and the head of the Jember PKBI branch. His active involvement strengthened the synergy between the academic institution and community organization in promoting social welfare and public health.
The collaboration yielded significant benefits. Participants gained in-depth knowledge of SRHR and learned how to protect themselves from sexual abuse. Education on healthy lifestyles and nutrition empowered students to prioritize their well-being. Moreover, the health screenings provided an opportunity for students and teachers to monitor their health status. This initiative underscores the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences’ commitment to community engagement and improving public health through synergistic collaborations.
