In an effort to provide services for taxpayers to report taxes accurately and correctly, the University of Jember (UNEJ) Tax Center is present as a solution to assist taxpayers in fulfilling their tax obligations. With trained experts and tax volunteers, the UNEJ Tax Center provides free consultation, assistance, and tax education services.
The University of Jember (UNEJ) Tax Center offers tax assistance services until the end of March 2025. These services are available at the Student Activity Center (SAC) and the Jubung Vocational Campus, with operating hours from 08:00 to 13:00 WIB. The UNEJ Tax Center aims to assist in the tax reporting process and provide education on the importance of paying taxes as a contribution to the country.
This service is reinforced by a volunteer team consisting of 30 students from the D3 Taxation study program. These volunteers are tasked with providing understanding to the public that by paying taxes, they have participated in national development.
Head of the Tax Center Laboratory, Nurcahyani Dwi Kusumaningrum, S.E., M.A., emphasized the importance of paying taxes as part of citizens’ obligations, “We are obliged to pay taxes because we enjoy state facilities,” she said.
As part of the users of state facilities, the obligation to pay taxes must be carried out. Basically, the taxes paid will return to the community. The public needs to realize that taxes are the main source of state revenue that allows the wheels of government to continue running.
She also explained that taxpayers can be individuals or business entities, depending on their registered status.
“As taxpayers, they have an obligation to pay. If they try to avoid taxes or embezzle taxes, there are clear sanctions,” she explained.
Sanctions for taxpayers who do not report can start from warnings via personal email. If violations continue, the sanctions can be in the form of administrative fines or even revocation of the Taxpayer Identification Number (NPWP) for severe cases.
“Most likely, if it happens again, it can be accumulated. Actually, they have paid, but have not reported. Later, the next tax could be more expensive,” she added.
Not only paying taxes, but reporting taxes is also an obligation that must be fulfilled for every registered taxpayer.
With this service, it is hoped that the community, especially the UNEJ academic community, will be more aware of the importance of timely tax reporting and payment.
