The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) at the University of Jember officially partnered with Jember Fashion Carnival (JFC) by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Wednesday, May 7, 2025. This collaboration aims to strengthen the synergy between academia and the creative industry, particularly in developing the creative economy, research, and community empowerment.
The Dean of FISIP, University of Jember, Dr. Suyani Indriastuti, S.Sos., M.Si., Ph.D., stated that this partnership is a strategic step to advance the development of applied social sciences. “Through this collaboration with JFC, FISIP students and lecturers can directly engage in creative projects, tourism research, and regional branding reinforcement,” she remarked in her address.
Meanwhile, a representative from JFC expressed appreciation for FISIP University of Jember’s initiative in supporting the development of the local fashion and cultural industry. “We hope this collaboration can extend JFC’s positive impact, not only as an event but also as an economic driver and cultural preserver,” he explained.
The scope of the MoU includes knowledge exchange, creative entrepreneurship training, and the development of internship programs for FISIP students under JFC’s guidance. Additionally, both parties will organize joint seminars, workshops, and research related to the creative industry and culture-based tourism.
The MoU signing concluded with high hopes that the collaboration between academics and creative industry players will strengthen Jember’s position as a cultural city and a leading tourist destination in East Java. Both parties are committed to implementing concrete programs in the near future, including preparing for student participation in the upcoming JFC 2025.
