The “Studium Generale Middle Eastern Week 2025” featured an in-depth discussion on the latest geopolitical dynamics in the Middle East. The primary focus was on the Gaza crisis, the issue of normalization of relations between countries, and the strategic role Indonesia can play. The online event, held on April 17, 2025, featured Dr. Zuhairi Miswari, the Indonesian Ambassador to Tunisia, as a competent speaker. Ambassador Zuhairi provided a comprehensive analysis of the region’s complexities, highlighting the root causes of conflict, the implications of normalization policies, and Indonesia’s potential contributions to maintaining regional stability.

Dr. Zuhairi Miswari opened the discussion by critically reviewing the latest developments in Gaza. He emphasized that the recurring escalation of conflict reflects prolonged injustice and the need for a comprehensive and sustainable solution. Ambassador Zuhairi also highlighted the immense humanitarian impact of the conflict, urging all relevant parties to prioritize dialogue and respect international law. He further underscored the importance of the active role of the international community, including Indonesia, in fostering a just and dignified peace for the Palestinian people.

The discussion then shifted to the issue of normalizing relations between several Arab countries and Israel. Ambassador Zuhairi Miswari shared his view that the normalization process is a complex issue with various dimensions. He acknowledged the potential benefits of normalization in creating stability and economic cooperation but also cautioned against neglecting the aspirations and rights of the Palestinian people in the process. According to him, a just and comprehensive two-state solution remains the key to lasting peace in the Middle East.

In the context of Indonesia’s role, Dr. Zuhairi Miswari affirmed that Indonesia holds a strategic position and a strong track record in international diplomacy, especially concerning issues related to the Islamic world and peace. He highlighted various efforts Indonesia has made in supporting the Palestinian struggle and encouraging dialogue among conflicting parties. Ambassador Zuhairi also emphasized the importance of Indonesia continuing to play an active role through various international forums and bilateral diplomatic channels, as well as strengthening solidarity with other countries that share a similar vision for creating peace in the Middle East.

In closing, Dr. Zuhairi Miswari invited all studium generale participants to continue enhancing their understanding of Middle Eastern geopolitical dynamics and to support peace efforts. He stressed that the Middle East issue is not only a concern for countries in the region but also has global implications. With deep understanding and active involvement, Indonesia can continue to contribute significantly to realizing sustainable stability and peace in the Middle East.
