The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) at the University of Jember continues to expand its international reach by initiating a strategic collaboration with San Pedro College (SPC) from Davao City, Philippines.

Conducted online, this initial meeting marks a mutual commitment to synergize in advancing education, research, and community service across Southeast Asia. This step is part of FISIP University of Jember’s ongoing efforts to support the campus’s internationalization program towards becoming a World Class University.

Key Areas of Academic Collaboration

The primary focus of this initiative spans various academic exchange programs, which include:

  • Student Exchange Programs: Facilitating cross-cultural and academic learning for students from both institutions.

  • Joint Research: Encouraging collaborative research projects among faculty members.

  • International Guest Lectures: Hosting expert-led lectures to provide students with a global perspective on current socio-political issues in the ASEAN region.

  • Scientific Publications: Partnering in international journal publications to boost citations and elevate the global academic reputation of both institutions.

A Shared Vision for Social Impact

The Dean of FISIP University of Jember stated that a shared vision of nurturing intellectually excellent and socially conscious graduates provides a solid foundation for this partnership. San Pedro College warmly welcomed the proposal, acknowledging FISIP UNEJ’s dynamic reputation in social sciences and diplomacy studies within Indonesia.

Interestingly, this cooperation extends beyond theoretical frameworks, aiming to impact cross-border community service. Through this collaboration, students and lecturers from both Jember and Davao City will have the opportunity to engage in joint social projects targeting local community issues. This initiative is viewed as an effective avenue to strengthen bilateral relations between Indonesia and the Philippines through education and culture.

Next Steps and Implementation

As a follow-up to this initial meeting, both parties will soon draft a detailed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and Memorandum of Agreement (MoA). The implementation of this collaborative program is expected to commence as early as the upcoming semester.

Through this partnership, FISIP University of Jember further solidifies its position as an adaptive and inclusive educational institution ready to face future global challenges.
