Akhmad Munir, the President Director of the National News Agency (LKBN) ANTARA, has been officially elected as the Chairman of the Indonesian Journalists Association (PWI) for the 2025-2030 term. This decision was made at the organization’s highest forum, the 2025 PWI Congress, held in a solemn and democratic atmosphere.
The congress, which brought together press professionals from all over Indonesia, took place at the Balai Pelatihan dan Pengembangan Teknologi Informasi dan Komunikasi (BPPTIK) Komdigi in Cikarang, Bekasi Regency. The chairman election was the highlight of the event, held on Saturday, August 30, 2025, and attended by hundreds of PWI representatives from various provinces and branches nationwide.
During the voting process, Munir, a graduate of the Social Welfare Sciences program at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, University of Jember, secured a majority of votes from the congress participants. His victory marks a new era of leadership for Indonesia’s oldest and largest journalist organization. As a senior journalist who now heads the national news agency, Munir is considered to have the capacity and extensive experience to steer PWI.
Munir’s election brings great hope to PWI members. He is expected to lead the organization in adapting to the increasingly complex challenges of the press in the digital age, enhancing the competence and professionalism of journalists, and advocating for press freedom and the welfare of journalists in Indonesia.
With this new mandate, Akhmad Munir will lead PWI for the next five years. The press community eagerly awaits the strategic steps he and his new board will take to address the dynamics of the media industry and uphold PWI’s honor as a vital pillar in democracy and the dissemination of accurate information to the public.
