The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) at the University of Jember (Unej) is preparing to welcome its new students for the Class of 2025 with a comprehensive orientation program. The eight-day event, known as “Pengenalan Kehidupan Kampus bagi Mahasiswa Baru” (PKKMB) or Campus Life Introduction for New Students, will take place from Saturday, August 9, to Saturday, August 16, 2025. This program is designed to equip new students with a strong sense of national identity, essential academic knowledge, and ethical values crucial for their higher education journey.
Mandatory for all new FISIP Unej students, the PKKMB serves as a vital foundation before classes begin. Dr. Edy Wahyudi, the Head of the 2025 FISIP PKKMB Committee, stated that this year’s agenda is specifically tailored to provide a holistic understanding for new students. “We want our new students not only to get to know the physical campus environment but also to understand the academic system, student ethics, and various self-development opportunities available at FISIP,” he explained. The program, themed with a spirit of intellectuality and integrity, is meticulously structured to build a student’s character—making them not only academically excellent but also nationally conscious, ethical, and ready to face the challenges of the digital age.
The program kicks off with fundamental topics, including the Indonesian Higher Education System and a deep dive into the profile of the University of Jember. Students will be introduced to the Indonesian National Qualifications Framework (KKNI), their specific study program curriculums, and the implementation of the Impact Campus initiative, which forms the core of the learning process at FISIP.
To reinforce their national identity, a special session will cover aspects of national and state life, national identity, and the fostering of a national defense consciousness. This will be complemented by discussions on preventing and combating intolerance, radicalism, terrorism, and the spread of ideologies that contradict the nation’s principles.
A major focus of this year’s PKKMB is the personal development of students. Several sessions are planned, including “Student Growth Mindset Introduction,” “Character Building for Students who Value Humanity and Mental Health,” and “Student Self-Control.” Other critical topics like “Managerial and Leadership Skills,” “Being Social Media Savvy and Responsible,” and “Anti-Plagiarism” will also be covered in depth.
In preparation for the modern era, students will learn about Higher Education in the Digital and Industrial Revolution Era. Important issues such as Prevention and Handling of Sexual Violence in Higher Education (PPKPT), Drug Abuse Prevention and Anti-Corruption, and an introduction to the Integrity Zone (ZI) and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are also on the agenda.
Beyond academics, students will be introduced to the entire campus ecosystem. This includes the Integrated Information System Services of the University of Jember, Academic Supporting Units (UPA), and student organizations such as Extra-Campus Student Organizations (Ormek) and University Student Activity Units (UKM). The program will also feature sessions on entrepreneurship and an introduction to the Jember University Alumni Family (KAUJE) to inspire new students.
To equip students for success, a dedicated session will focus on Tips and Tricks for Student Achievements, highlighting extracurricular activities, reasoning and talent development at the university. The PKKMB will conclude with Study Plan Programming and a dress rehearsal for the inauguration ceremony, marking the culmination of the program and officially welcoming new students into the FISIP University of Jember family.
