Jember, Indonesia – The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) at the University of Jember has recently completed its internal selection process for two of Indonesia’s most prestigious national debate competitions: the National University Debating Championship (NUDC) and the Indonesian Student Debate Competition (KDMI) for the year 2025. This event was a strategic move by the faculty to find students with the best critical thinking, analytical, and public speaking skills to represent FISIP at the university and national levels.
The selection process, which took place on August 4-5, 2025, in the FISIP Meeting Room, was met with great enthusiasm from students across various programs. Officially opened by the Deputy Dean III of FISIP, Dr. Edy Wahyudi, S.Sos., M.M., participants were challenged with debate motions on relevant current social, political, and international issues.
The NUDC, which uses the English parliamentary debate format, and the KDMI, which uses a similar format in Indonesian, required participants to not only be fluent in their respective languages but also to construct logical, well-structured, and data-driven arguments within a limited time. The sessions served as a proving ground for participants to showcase their analytical depth and logical acuity to the panel of experts.
Comprehensive and Objective Judging
To ensure the quality and objectivity of the assessment, FISIP appointed a panel of seven highly qualified and experienced judges. The credibility of the jury guaranteed the integrity of the selection process. The seven judges were: Honest Dody Molasy, S.Sos., M.A; Mohammad Reza Muizzul Pasha, S.Sos.; Yohana Valentine; Alvhindeaz Ayendho S.M.B., M.B.A; Akhmad Munif Mubarok, S.Sos., M.Si.; Dr. Rojabi Azharghany, M.Si.; and Nurcahyaning Dwi Kusumaningrum, S.E., M.A.
The judges, who come from various academic disciplines including Sociology, International Relations, Business Administration, and Social Welfare, provided a comprehensive perspective to the evaluation. They assessed not only the content and quality of the arguments (matter) and delivery style (manner) but also the method of argument structuring (method) and teamwork.
With the conclusion of the selection, FISIP University of Jember has high hopes for the selected students who will serve as the faculty’s ambassadors. They are expected to continue the tradition of achievement and bring honor to their alma mater in the upcoming NUDC and KDMI competitions. This event also reaffirms FISIP’s commitment to facilitating students’ non-academic potential, especially in fostering a culture of critical thinking and dialogue.
