“In commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) of Universitas Jember (UNEJ), the Student Activity Unit (UKM) of FISIP Protocol organized a series of interesting events. One of the highlighted activities was a public speaking competition that included a Master of Ceremony (MC) and News Anchor contest. Additionally, a workshop was held to enhance participants’ public speaking skills. Both events were held on October 12 and 13, 2024, in the FISIP UNEJ Meeting Room.

The public speaking competition organized by the UKM FISIP Protocol successfully attracted participants from various backgrounds. Approximately 50 participants from various institutions and cities participated in the competition. After a rigorous selection process, 10 finalists were chosen to compete in the final round. These finalists came from various prestigious universities in Indonesia, such as Universitas Gajah Mada and Universitas Padjajaran, as well as other educational institutions like MTS.

In the MC final, five participants will showcase their abilities, namely Fitra Dwi Nursetyani (UGM), Emrei Maulida Kurniawan (FH UNEJ), Muhammad Nur Hafizh Alfarizy (MTS 1 Jember), Balqis Aina (FISIP UNEJ), and Friska Aprilia Dwi Martha (FISIP UNEJ). Meanwhile, for the News Anchor category, the five finalists who will compete are Wulan Faradila Wigunastika (UNEJ), Tri Ayu Nila Lestari (Korps Protokoler Mahasiswa Universitas Padjadjaran), Alfian Nawary (STDI Imam Syafi’i Jember), Fanny Amalia Surya Tantular (FISIP UNEJ), and Maulidiya (FISIP UNEJ). The finalists will be judged by professional juries with experience in communication and broadcasting.

Dr. Selfi Budi Helpiastuti, the advisor of the UKM FISIP Protocol UNEJ, stated that the workshop and public speaking competition aim to improve the quality of human resources, especially in the field of public speaking. Additionally, this event is expected to enhance the communication skills of the participants in public speaking. The head of the committee, Wisnu Aji, explained that the competition consists of two stages, namely the online preliminary round and the offline final round. The themes raised in the competition are diverse, ranging from inauguration events to social issues such as femicide and criminality. This event received full support from various parties, including Telkomsel and Prashanti Training Jember.”
