The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) at Jember University (UNEJ) is demonstrating its commitment to improving human resources by holding a “Talent Scouting Workshop to Boost Lecturer Capacity Through Overseas Ph.D. Studies.” The event, which aims to identify and prepare potential lecturers, was officially opened by the Vice Rector for Academic Affairs, Prof. Drs. Slamin, M.Com.Sc., Ph.D. The two-day workshop took place on September 2-3, 2025, in Jember University’s International Room.
In his speech, Prof. Slamin emphasized the importance of overseas studies for lecturers to broaden their horizons, build international networks, and bring back the latest research innovations. According to him, an increase in the number of lecturers with doctoral degrees from world-renowned universities will directly impact Jember University’s academic reputation on the global stage. “This is a long-term investment for the institution. We are not just sending lecturers to study, but also to become academic ambassadors who will strengthen research and teaching collaborations in the future,” he said to the participants.
The workshop was designed with a talent scouting concept, where lecturers with strong potential and interest in pursuing Ph.D. studies received intensive training. The topics covered a range of crucial aspects, from strategies for choosing the right university and study program, to techniques for writing competitive research proposals, and tips for securing prestigious scholarships like LPDP, Fulbright, and others. Participants also had the opportunity to engage in direct discussions with alumni who successfully completed their doctoral studies abroad.
The atmosphere of the event was highly interactive, showing great enthusiasm from the lecturers who attended. They actively asked questions and shared experiences regarding the challenges faced in planning further studies. The organizing committee stated that this event is the first step in a series of coaching programs that will continue to facilitate and monitor the progress of prospective doctoral students until they are successfully admitted to their target universities.
It is hoped that through this workshop, more internationally qualified lecturers will emerge from Jember University. This strategic initiative will not only strengthen the individual capacity of the educators but also significantly accelerate the achievement of Jember University’s vision as a leading research institution that makes a real contribution to the advancement of science and the Indonesian nation.
