The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) at the University of Jember (UNEJ) continues to demonstrate its commitment to supporting student mental health through an excellent collaboration between its “Betalks” podcast and the FISIP UNEJ counseling team. The inaugural episode of “Betalks,” aired on FISIP’s YouTube channel, featured an inspiring story from a student survivor. Hosted by Dr. Franciscus Adi Prasetyo, M.Si., a lecturer from the Department of Communication Studies, this collaboration is expected to serve as a platform for education and support for students experiencing depression and other mental health issues.
The podcast showcases diverse stories from students with varying backgrounds, ranging from academic pressure and family problems to difficulties adapting to new environments. They share their experiences of struggling with mental health disorders, seeking professional help, and ultimately recovering. These narratives aim to provide hope and motivation for other students who are currently struggling. “We want to show that mental health disorders are not the end of everything. There is a way out, and there are people who care,” stated Dr. Franciscus Adi Prasetyo, M.Si., the podcast host.
The collaboration between “Betalks” and the Communication Studies Department’s counseling team will continue with new episodes regularly broadcast on FISIP’s YouTube channel. Each episode will feature different themes and speakers, focusing on mental health issues relevant to students. Additionally, the counseling team will provide direct counseling services for students who need them. “We hope this collaboration can create a healthier and more supportive campus environment for all students,” added Dr. Franciscus Adi Prasetyo, M.Si.
