The recent floods that hit Desa Wonoasri, Jember, have left deep sorrow for the local community. Many residents’ homes were submerged, public facilities were damaged, and community activities were disrupted. In response to this disaster, a number of parties have moved quickly to provide assistance and support.
One of them is the Abdimas Pusaka Research Group (KeRis) in collaboration with the Campus Volunteer SMEs at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, University of Jember. Both organizations worked together to carry out emergency response actions by distributing aid in the form of food packages, used clothing, medicines, and hygiene kits. In addition, volunteers also helped clean the homes of flood-affected residents and conducted trauma healing for children.
“We feel called to help ease the burden of our brothers and sisters who have been affected by the floods. Hopefully, the assistance we provide can be beneficial and slightly heal their wounds,” said Joko Mulyono, S.Sos., M.Si., as the Head of Keris Abdimas Pusaka, when met at the aid distribution location.
Not only providing material assistance, volunteers also provide moral support to the community. They interact with residents, listen to their stories, and give encouragement so that they remain strong in facing this trial.
This humanitarian action shows the community’s concern for each other. Hopefully, the spirit of mutual cooperation and concern will continue to be maintained so that it can be an inspiration for many parties to contribute to disaster mitigation
